That's a pretty good analysis and he should consider it.....![]()
Why is he attempting so many of them? I think it's pretty obvious, 10 games into the season, and 26 three point attempts later that he doesn't have the range to make NBA threes at a decent percentage.
His stats from beyond the ark this season:
5-26, .192 3P%
If I was him I would look at what another Texas alumnus, Kevin Durant, did last season. At one point in the season he realized that he couldn't shoot NBA 3s and publicly came out and said he would limit his attempts considerably. He did and it continues to this day. His FG% has improved because of it.
DJ right now is shooting .405 from the field, but take away the 26 three point attempts (and 5 three point makes to even it out) and his FG% jumps to .500
If I'm LB, I would consistently remind the guy to drive, drive, drive. He has .926 FT% after all, why not take advantage of it more?

......Go Bobcats!!!!! !!!..
can we please. please. please. pretty freaking please. please. please. pleeeeeze. please.
give this team and especially our rookies more than 10 games before trying to diagnose their problems. I know you aren't saying trade him or anything. but the kid is a rookie and shits gonna happen that we dont love. but its way too early to start questioning ability imo. and definetly too early to start selling people down the river.
except Sean May and Matt Carroll. feel free to sell them down a river... just make sure its a big one.
You may be right but as of right now you have to agree that I make a fair point.
26 attempts in 10 games is a fair amount of shots to realize if one does or does not have the range. DJ was a 38% three point shooter in college but it just doesn't look like he has the NBA range at the moment. He may develop it with time but right now, 2.6 attempts per game when you're shooting .192 from out there is not helping the team.
While I have no intention of upsetting a moderator, I think taking a look at DJ's production is relevant because he is playing half of each game. The 3s concern is legitimate. He's attempted a three in all but one game, but has hit from long range in only three games. In six games he's had multiple 3p attempts and no makes. DJ driving and scoring or kicking generates far more opportunities for his teammates and is what the team had in mind when they drafted him. As the OP mentioned, he's not a bad scorer, but limiting the 3-point attempts would be beneficial.
The team takes their cue from the PG, regardless of whether he's a rookie or not. In the Denver game, DJ went 0-5 from 3 (Raymond 0-3) and the team shot 27 3s, the most ever for a LB coached team. In the Cats 3 wins, DJ has attempted a total of four 3-pointers and that's not a coincidence.
part of the reason he's taking so many may be not feeling comfortable running the offense and feeling pressured to do something... hopefully this will come with time and i agree that both he and RF should be very selective with their 3s
Hammer is shooting 18% from beyond the arc this season on 1.3 attempts in only 15 mins per game.
Maybe he should stop shooting them too?
yes, we should figure out a way to trade him so he'll stop shooting them.
