Walter Hermann has impressed a lot of people in this year’s World Championships. He has shown that he can score and that he has the athleticism to compete in the NBA, The CharlotteBobcats may have stumbled onto a quality 10 or 15 minute a gme guy for their roster and it cost them nothing to get him except minimal cap room.
SENDAI, Japan — Argentina star Walter Herrmann is close to signing a deal with the Charlotte Bobcats.
The 6-foot-6 Herrmann, who has scored 48 points in Argentina’s two victories in the world championships, said he hopes to ink a one-year deal before the tournament ends Sept. 3.
“They’ll give me a physical sometime soon, and the deal will be finalized after that,” he said Tuesday before Argentina practiced.
Bobcats coach and general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said they are working on getting a physical completed in Asia.
“We have an agreement in principle,” Bickerstaff said. “We are working out the logistics.”
Herrmann, who plays in the Spanish league, scored 25 points as Argentina beat Venezuela 96-54 on Monday to improve to 3-0. A day earlier, he had 23 points in a 107-72 win over Lebanon.
“We knew he can score,” Bickerstaff said. “He’s been playing very well.”
With Chicago Bulls forward Andres Nocioni seeing limited playing time because of a sore ankle, Herrmann has taken advantage of the opportunity to showcase his talent.
“It feels great and I’ve gained a lot of confidence here,” said Herrmann. “I’ve had a lot of minutes in these games, being successful shooting the ball and having a hot hand has really helped.”

Jumaine Jones made approximately 1.875 million dollars last season. He was one of the only Bobcats last season who was able to consistently knock down shots from the perimeter. Raymond Felton, Brevin Knight, Gerald Wallace make their living off of driving and slashing instead of knocking down jumpers. The Bobcats are rumored to be considering replacing Jumaine with Argentenian import Walter Hermann. This would all be fine and dandy except that he is a less experienced duplication of 2 other Bobcats currently on the roster, Gerald Wallace and Bernard Robinson. The only thing this signing would accomplish is knocking off 1.4 million of the Bobcats cap (assuming they sign Hermann at the veteran minimum) and losing a much needed perimeter shooter from the roster. Now if you're a team like the New York Knicks who are in salary cap Hades, then this type of move should be applauded, But the Bobcats are currently about 500 gazillion dollars below the salary minimum and there are zero rumors of any significant free agent signings on the horizon.
