Welcome to the “Post-Season”

Posted by on Apr 25, 2009 in Featured, Nazr Mohammed, Sam Vincent | 2 comments

Post-season just means after the season, doesn’t mean anything about playoffs so I’m just saying, I’m not upset the Bobcats didn’t make it, that’s all I’m saying ok?

I’ve been a little defensive as a fan lately.  I mentioned paying off my season tickets with my tax return, which I received in 6 days by the way.  My Dad said to me “Wow, that’s a lot of money to see someone lose.”  Don’t worry, he meant it as a joke because I had made fun of his awesome turkey neck minutes earlier.  Dude is getting old.  Mom came to my defense though.  “You leave him alone!  You know he loves those games and it doesn’t matter if they win or lose!  It’s something for him and his friends to do and talk about!”

Thanks Ma!  Nothing like you taking up for me to make me feel 9 again!  I’m pretty relieved the season is over.  The economy is putting a big drag on everyone, buying playoff tickets may have been rough, wanting to go out and have a few brewskis at the game and before/after uptown would have been a bit of a strain….I guess.  Really though, I wanted it.  I wanted it bad.  I wanted to me an official member of the club.  In my “nice to know” post I mentioned, now that some hockey team had made the playoffs there was only 2 franchises of all the “Big 4″ leagues to not make the playoffs: Charlotte Bobcats and Houston Texans.

Disappointing but I am trying to stay positive:  At least we don’t have this guy anymore: I was joking when we were talking about his firing from the D-League team he was coaching and I said “it’s a long climb but a short fall but it seems like this guy is going to hit every rung on the way down.”  He might actually do it.  Is he going back to warming the bench for the Celtics and Bulls in another 10 years?

Larry Browns comments in the post-season press conference were nothing special.  Except that he and MJ make fun of Okafor for doing yoga and pilates.  Also, he sort of said “Hey, what are you going to do?”  When asked about Nazr Mohamed’s desire to play or be traded.

Seriously though?  What are you going to do with Nazr or Nazr’s contract?  The guy did contribute in the games after elimination but they were meaningless games!  He’s big, he can sort of handle the ball a little and handle himself and other bigs down on the block but he’s nothing special, in my eyes anyway.  Diop can block a shot or seriously alter them on the defensive end and his offensive game needs work but then again, so does Nazr.

Former Bobcats coach Sam Vincent dumped by the NBDL’s Anaheim Arsenal?

Posted by on Apr 19, 2009 in Featured, Sam Vincent | 3 comments

Apparently the all-encompasing suck that is more commonly known as “Sam Vincent’s coaching ability” has managed to get hem canned from his latest gig as head coach of the Anaheim Arsenal of the NBDL.

According to Ridiculous Upside, Paul Mokeski  (another former Bobcats assistant) is running the show.

Paul Mokeski is now the head coach of the Anaheim Arsenal.  I don’t know when it started, but it sounds like Sam Vincent hasn’t been travelling with the team for a little while now.

If anyone has any detail on what got him fired this time, we would love to hear about it.

We’re Done

We’re done. Stick a fork in us.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have the basketball gods prove me wrong and have the Bobcats win their final 5 games while either the Pistons or the Bulls lose their final 5 games, but lets be realists here… That’s not going to happen.

What accepting the Bobcats’ fate does for me now is that allows me to fully reflect on this season without being pulled in a direction by my basketball psyche that’s screaming “We can still do this!!”. After the loss to the Pistons today, Even my basketball psyche has shut up.

Even though we are not going to be making our first trip to the playoffs this season, there are many things to be proud of if you are a Bobcats fan. Over the course of the past year we have gone from a team that was coached by one of the most inept individuals to ever hold a clipboard to the legendary Larry Brown. That’s like upgrading from a ’92 Escort with 3 bald tires and a donut to a brand new Mercedes off of the showroom floor. Last year we started Jeff McInnis at PG (insert Jeff McInnis joke here), this season the coaching staff divvied up the minutes between Raymond Felton and DJ Augustin. From a personnel standpoint, we took Jason Richardson & Jared Dudley and turned them into Boris Diaw and Raja Bell. When this deal went down, the Suns fans pronounced it a theft on par with last season’s Pao Gasol deal. I think its pretty clear to everyone now that they were a little overzealous. Raja Bell’s defense and Boris Diaw’s superior passing and versatility are both gigantic reasons why we played .500+ basketball since that deal went down. J-Rich can do this though. We even managed to turn Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown into Vlad Radmanovic. Shannon Brown had some moments with the Bobcats, but he was never going to be more than 9th or 10th man on the roster, Adam was horrible this season… that is honestly the nicest way that I can put it.

Barring injuries we will certainly be a playoff team for the 2009-2010 season. I (and all of the other diehard fans) wanted it this year, and we were damned close but you have to crawl before you can walk. I can confidently say that this is our final season of crawling.

Welcome to the Bobcats Larry Brown

Welcome to the Bobcats Larry Brown. We’re glad to have you running the show here.

Over the past year we’ve had to suffer through a coach that:

  • Put Jeff McInnis in his starting lineup for two-thirds of the season.
  • Alienated his players 3 weeks into the season.
  • Singlehandedly almost cost the Bobcats organization a 5 million dollar fine by cancelling a flight when he didn’t have the authority to do so
  • Had no in-game strategy
  • Never once took the blame for any of the problems that the team had this season
  • likes to wear stretchy pants

Larry, you’re playing with house money… I’m sure that you won’t disappoint.

inspired by this great post  on our forum.

Sam Vincent has been fired

Posted by on Apr 26, 2008 in Sam Vincent | 0 comments

After one season with the Charlotte Bobcats, Sam Vincent has been relieved of his coaching duties.

NBA.com

“The decision to remove Sam as head coach after just one season was difficult, but it was a decision that had to be made because my first obligation is to do what is in the best interest of our team,” Jordan said.

The snippet reads a little more accurately to me if you insert “incredibly easy” for the word “difficult”.  There won’t be many that miss having Sam on the sidelines. During his time here he managed to alienate the players and piss off a large chunk of the fans. There is one thing that will definitely be missed… New editions to the Sam Vincent photoshop gallery, but I can live with that.
