Previewing the Game of the Century – Charlotte Bobcats versus Washington Wizards part I

Posted by on Jan 25, 2012 in Washington Wizards | 2 comments

Looking ahead at the first of two epic match-ups between the Bobcats and the Wizards, I took the opportunity to interview Kyle Weidie of the fantastic TruthAboutIt.net a phenomenally entertaining Washington Wizards blog.

Below are his thoughts on the Wizards.

Ziggy: What was the main reason Flip Saunders was fired?

Kyle: When major change must happen else the franchise finds itself going in reverse (a case could be made that Washington’s already in that state), the coach is the first who’s gotta go. Why? Because he’s the easiest to get rid of (GMs come with more tentacles and players, not a chance). The Wizards curiously did retain the rest of Flip’s staff, promoting top assistant Randy Wittman, perhaps to save money. One thing that’s widely believed is that this is not a solution to the problem, far from it. Washington needs more change, you just gotta wonder who’s next.
Ziggy: How many seasons away is John Wall from performing at an All-Star level? What does he need to improve on in order to take that next step?
Kyle: It will be predicated on the Wizards’ ability to win. Seeing as they are likely a 2013 lottery team as well, I’m going to call 2014 for Wall’s first All-Star season… so his fourth year in the league.

Bobcats Beat the Wizards

You can’t go back to calling them the Bullets, even though it was a cool nickname.  There’s even a blog called Bullets Forever but you just can’t name a team the Bullets in a city like Washington when you’ve had the situation like ol’ Wacky Agent Zero Doo Doo in Your Shoe Arenas had.  Sorry, you have to stick with the Wizards.  Hell, you had Michael Jordan play as a Wizard, not a Bullet.  So, what comes to mind when you think Wizards?

Well, hate to tell you but you just got beat…again.  On the road no less?  I don’t wanna rub it in or gloat but the Washington Wizards have not won a game on the road at all this year.  They have this roster that just sort of baffles me, like a 13 year old kid on NBA 2k whatever and he just trades and trades and trades and has these ok draft picks and somehow it doesn’t work for them.  John Wall has been injured, Agent Poo Poo Shoe wasn’t what he was, he got traded, the took on the horrible contract of one Rashard Lewis.  It just seems like a horrible storm of shoes filled with poo.  Flip Saunders is their coach, he’s had some success, he is trying really hard, even showing this video:

Bobcats slaughtered by Wizards

Posted by on Dec 21, 2010 in Dominic McGuire, Larry Brown, Washington Wizards | 2 comments

Well, what can I say after a performance like that. For those who know me, I’m our resident Australian Bobcats fan. So yes, that meant I woke up at 8 a.m to watch that game. If you even want to call it a game. I don’t even know where to begin to be honest, because deficiencies were everywhere.

Firstly, turnovers. Forced passes, stupid decisions, being too aggressive in the post. All these lead to turnovers. All these cost us an offensive trip. And for the Bobcats who are absolutely horrendous on offense, we need to cut down because we need every shot we can get. Main offender here was Captain Jack with 6 TOs. I understand hes trying to carry us, but he’s forcing things right now.

Offense. It’s hard enough without Crash, even harder when you have McGuire on the court. I’m not bagging him or anything, but seriously LB don’t play him 20+ minutes. Give it to TT who is able to put points on the board in a short amount of time. Plus TT is a better defender. McGuire is only there for rebounding and hustle. A better defender than UPS? No thanks.

Play Matt Carroll. Seriously LB. When you need a guy to come in and hit a 3. Play him. He’s a great shooter, its what he’s paid for.

Charlotte Bobcats / Toronto Raptors recap and a look ahead to the Washington Wizards

Posted by on Nov 11, 2010 in DJ Augustin, Stephen Jackson, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards | 0 comments

The Charlotte Bobcats survived the Toronto Raptors last night to gain their second win of the season. The Raptors played the Bobcats tough and had strong nights from Andrea (chick name) Bargnani, Sonny (Wait.. Who?) Weems and Reggie (good touch bad touch) Evans.

rambling sidebar – I really have a hard time calling a man Andrea, maybe its because when I was in this college there was this thick 5’5″ sister named Andrea that looked like Lisa Raye dipped in Hershey’s chocolate. She was phenomenally smoking, but to delve into further detail probably borders on a little to much sharing for this blog.

There were a few interesting things to note in this game.

  • There were extended minutes for Gerald Henderson and he made the most of them. He showed his usual aggressiveness on defense and displayed a surprisingly consistent jumper. Hendo wound up with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal in 19 minutes.
  • Tyrus Thomas was a defensive force in his limited minutes. If anyone can explain to me why Boris got 17 minutes more this game than Tyrus, I would be glad to hear your rationale on it. In 21 minutes TT tore it up for 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 huge blocked shots.
  • Jax was inconsistent for the first 3 quarters, but with the game on the line in the closing minutes he knocked down a couple of gianourmous threes and stripped the ball from Andrea ( theres that name again ) Bargnani. When things got tight, Jax stepped up big time.  He may not have exactly made love to pressure against the Raptors, but at a minimum he did some heavy petting.
  • DJ Augustin had a solid game at the PG spot on his birthday with 16 points, 7 assists, 3 steals and shooting 3-5 from three point range. He seems to be doing his best not to be seen as any sort of weak link in this lineup since he has taken over for Felton who is doing his thing for the Knicks.

Sunday Morning Link Dump

Posted by on Sep 19, 2010 in Boris Diaw, DJ Augustin, Washington Wizards | 0 comments

Hi everyone, As you can see we’ve spruced the place up a little with a fresh coat of paint. Take a look around our blog and also our forums to check out the new layout. we hope you like it. Now on to the linkage.

Charlotte Observer – Rick Bonnell questions where all of the Charlotte Bobcats fan negativity is coming from

Hoopsnotes.com – I desperately need a french speaking person to take a look at the video at this link and explain to me why Boris Diaw is parading around France in a costume that looks like some kind of Drunken Toucan

BCP Forums – Discussing DJ Augustin as Charlotte’s starting Point guard this season

TruthAboutIt.net – has an excellent blog on how a large chunk of the Bobcats roster is made up of former Washington Wizards

There are players Wizards fans used to root for, one player they flat-out hate, and a former player/president turned owner who sparks feelings of ambivalence.  No matter what the emotion, the Bobcats are definitely must-see-TV for Wizards fans. But there is one team in the Southeast Division, that arguably has the distinction of having the most interesting collection of ex-Wizards:  The Charlotte Bobcats.

That’s all for now, hope that your Sunday Morning dump was good for you.
