Hello Bobcats fans! I know I haven’t written for a long time, no it is nothing to do with me feeling too Depressed during this emphatic losing streak. I have had University exams for the last month which have been long and hard, a bit like the bobcats season.
I believe Reggie Williams deserves some LOVE right now from me, you and all the Bobcats fans. In a stretch where we have very few bright spots this guy has given me a reason to watch the games. However, I think he has been underappreciated by the BCP faithful, yeah I said it! Reggie Williams was undrafted in 2008 but was picked up by the warriors in 2010 as they looked for some offensive punch off their bench. Reggie delivered this, and much more. Reggie quickly became known for his 3 point shooting (44% last season); this is why the bobcats picked him up. Improvement in 3 point shooters was one of Silas’s top requests for the offseason, after missing out on Mike Dunleavy the Bobcats landed Reggie for a staggering 2.5 million over 2 years. Now in the NBA there are not many instances of pure value for money, but I believe this to be pretty close!
Unfortunately, Reggie has been out with the injury that seems to plague this team. As Ziggy’s caption says, “the Charlotte Bobcats: Where torn meniscuses happen”. This injury seems ever more prevalent in the NBA today, it is for this reason that I believe we should speak of torn meniscuses like harry Potter speaks of Voldermort in an effort to keep these injuries away. From now on it will be called “the you know what” instead of torn meniscus. But anyway, back to the point.
2011 Draft: My Take – Finale
Preparing for the Draft. We are now two days plus some hours (depending on the time of posting) from the 2011 draft. The Bobcats, I’m very pleased to say, have started the prospect workout portion of evaluating players with a fury. Unlike years past, the ‘Cats have had two players, Kemaba Walker and Kawhi Leonard, who are listed in many mock drafts as off the board before we pick, come in for workouts. Coach Paul Silas has made clear he expects the Bobcats to get very good players at the #9 and #19 draft positions and anticipates getting a functional player with #39. Charlotte has had a total of 50+ players in for work outs and with three picks it seems that the ‘Cats are doing due-diligence in the evaluation process. One other change that will have an impact on the draft is hiring Rich Cho as the new General Manager, and Rod Higgins being promoted to President of Basketball Operations.
The ‘Cats have had the best-rated small forwards, excluding the international players, of this draft in for workouts. Coach Paul Silas has had question-answer sessions after all of the workouts and a few of his answers jumped out at me. Some of these things are obvious to the fans but it it is nice to know that the organization is also aware of the team’s issues. This came up after the day three work out On wanting more 3-point shooting “It just puts so much pressure on your opponents when you kick it out and the man is spaced out properly and you kick it out to him.” This is from the day four PM Q&A session On what is tougher to teach up at the next level – defense or offense “That’s something that you can really work on. But the defense – it’s hard to make a good defender out of a guy that doesn’t just have it.” This is from the day five Q&A session His thoughts on evaluating international players “I look at these guys. Some of them are very, very good athletically. Defensively, there’s a big problem that I have with a lot of European guys.” I think it is a safe bet to assume the front office knows we need more consistency with our outside shooting, particularly off the bench. Coach Silas also gives us a couple of strong indications that he values defense over offense and that the offensive side of the game is easier to “teach”
It’s official. The Charlotte Bobcats have the 9th pick.
The Angel of Stern has determined that the Cleveland Cavaliers are the winners of the #1 overall draft pick this season. Kyrie Irving who was on hand during the lottery proceedings looked like he was on the verge of a severe crying jag as a result of the outcome. I would suggest that those closest to him to hide all sharp kitchen utensils and to lock up any medications stronger than baby aspirin. Of course if by some strange reason the Cavs pass on Kyrie then he will be sitting right there available for the T-Wolves at #2… Lord knows they have no reservations against drafting yet another point guard.
The Bobcats did not receive Stern’s blessing, so they will be sitting at #9 in this year’s draft. The Cats will likely be looking at a pool of players like Bismack Biyombo, Alec Burks, the Morris twins among others.
We are going to discuss potential draft picks until we are blue in the face right here. But what are your initial thoughts on who the Bobcats should take with the 9th pick?
Please Oh Please… Someone explain the meaning behind this bizarre video

Bobcats Beat the Wizards
You can’t go back to calling them the Bullets, even though it was a cool nickname. There’s even a blog called Bullets Forever but you just can’t name a team the Bullets in a city like Washington when you’ve had the situation like ol’ Wacky Agent Zero Doo Doo in Your Shoe Arenas had. Sorry, you have to stick with the Wizards. Hell, you had Michael Jordan play as a Wizard, not a Bullet. So, what comes to mind when you think Wizards?
Well, hate to tell you but you just got beat…again. On the road no less? I don’t wanna rub it in or gloat but the Washington Wizards have not won a game on the road at all this year. They have this roster that just sort of baffles me, like a 13 year old kid on NBA 2k whatever and he just trades and trades and trades and has these ok draft picks and somehow it doesn’t work for them. John Wall has been injured, Agent Poo Poo Shoe wasn’t what he was, he got traded, the took on the horrible contract of one Rashard Lewis. It just seems like a horrible storm of shoes filled with poo. Flip Saunders is their coach, he’s had some success, he is trying really hard, even showing this video:
A Little Linkage
The Bobcats have a nice relaxing rest from their game Saturday night in Milwaukee to Wednesday night against New Jersey. They probably need it, well some of them do. I know I do, that’s why I leave it up to the pros with this week’s Link list!
Bob Finnan’s three points and NBA rumor mill – Never heard of this dude before but he’s got a column with some interesting points. Ryan Hollins is sort of good, we all loved him but couldn’t wait on the development. Also he rehashes a quote that MJ would like to extend LB’s contract…we’ll have to discuss this some in our meeting this week.
Tim Povtak of Fanhouse – Speaking of old guys wanting to stick around, Nazr Mohammed expects to end his career in Charlotte. In the final year of his contract, again, something MJ and I have to discuss this week at our meeting. Largest item of note: Naz admits this could be his final year.
Brandan Wright – The San Francisco Gate reports that the Warriors will not offer Brandan Wright an extension. Interesting that the Bobcats have become the landing point for failed Carolina products…
