Rick Bonnell reports here that it is a done deal and will become official Tuesday morning.
There are 3 people who have averaged a double-double in each of the last 5 seasons:
- Tim Duncan
- Dwight Howard
- Emeka Okafor
That’s the list… Chandler has done it once in his entire career.
In the forums, fans are less than happy with this deal because it has this the stench of Bob Johnson dumping salary.
Me… Well, I’m completely baffled how this deal will make us a better team and get us closer to making the playoffs next season.
If you think this deal makes us better, please enlighten me by commenting below because I just don’t see it.

George Shinn screws Charlotte again. lol
Emeka’s always had decent numbers, but his impact on the game has been going downhill every year. In all honesty, he peaked in his rookie season.
This trade is a win for the Bobcats
The rationale has to be that Chandler provides similar (yet likely less) production while providing cap room in a couple years. So the Bobs stay roughly as competitive while going after a superior player in a few years.
That’s not an impossible scenario. Chandler’s toe and ankle may hold up next season. A star free agent may decide he wants to play in Charlotte. Eh… It’s a risky move and it’s not a move I’m comfortable with. I don’t like it right now.
Is another move immanent that would make this all makes sense?
Larry Brown knows what he is doing. Chandler is a real center not a PF playing C and if healthy can be a stud. He can run the pick and roll, set screens and he rebounds on the offensive glass. he seems more intimidating and more passionate about the game. Okafor always seemed to be going through the motions. If healthy I think it could be an upgrade. We must bring back Felton though. But every move we have made since Brown became coach has been good. How many people thought trading Richardson was smart at the time?
Felton/Augustin
Wallace/Radmanovic
Bell/Henderson
Diaw/Diop
Chandler/Brown
etc
plus Larry Brown
Not bad imo
[...] on this one, and backing him up is Hornets247 who seems happy, blogger and commenters both. Bobcats blogs seem less thrilled. Ordinarily this would be where I go look up each man’s stats and try to [...]
Chandler is what the Bobcats need. He 7’1″ and has crazy hops. He just needs to be coached to be patient on D and how to get better position on Offense. He will also run the court and be in every play. On the other hand Okafor never hustled down the court, he used the same robotic post move, and could never play D on larger and quicker centers unlike Chandler can. He is much more affective then Okafor.
I see the only good part of this trade being that we get rid of Okafor’s crazy contract. It is just swapping two guys who are almost the same player. I’m sick of swapping for a player that is only as good as the one we got rid of. When are we going to land someone big that can actually help?
Got to bring Felton back
