Expectations and Frustrations
I'm thinking of my Mom yelling from the other side of the kitchen:
"Close the refrigerator door. If you don't know what you want then obviously you aren't hungry!"
This seems to be the thought process over at 333 East Trade these days. "We just don't know what we want. But we want something!" We all thought it was Allen Iverson last week, but we didn't really want him. Brandon Bass, Rasheed Wallace, SideShow Bob, all off the table. Who knows? I don't. I can't think about it anymore. But I have to try.
I just read that some teams are waiting to see where the big names fall. Lamar Odom isn't coming here. Carlos Boozer isn't either. It's pretty much accepted that Miami, being Miami (beach, weather, last year's scoring champion) is going to get one of the "big" names still out there. Boozer, Odom, AI, or even 2 of them.
There is only one team that has done less so far this year than Charlotte or Miami and that's Philadelphia. Philly sort of blew their wad on last year and the year before and maybe the year before that. You don't get Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand locked up for the foreseeable future for nothing.
When you look at the team payrolls the Bobcats are at 20. No where near the Luxury Tax threshold of $69.92 Million. Right now there are 10 teams above and the 'Cats are in the bottom third. So, we're all thinking "Come the heck on!"
I don't have the answer. Just pick somebody: ESPN's list. So far the Bobcats have let 4 guys walk from last year's roster and added only 2 through the draft. (Yes, Cartier has been signed by a European team) There is no summer league team this year. Larry is working with the French National Team. Jordan is smoking cigars and playing in celebrity golf tournaments. (Way to finish tied for 17th with Ol' Vinnie Greenballs there MJ) Rod Higgins is out in Vegas avoiding MJ and Sean May (still HUNGRY!). Oh and he's trying to run off the starting PG. (No matter what anyone says DJ isn't ready and he isn't a straight up PG)
Bring in somebody, anybody and do it before we all lose our minds here at BCP. The East continues to get better and it's incumbent upon the Bobcats to get in the playoffs this year before everyone really loses interest. Could you? Please?

The luxury tax threshold will decrease over the next 2 years, so the Bobcats are playing the waiting game to see where the salary cap/luxury tax lies. It is just as frustrating to me to see no action, but in this market and given the Cats propensity to avoid signing big free agents, I think we’re already looking at next year’s team minus some lower tier big man cast off that we will undoubtedly sign just before training camp.
