Over the next few weeks we’ll be taking a look at players that the Charlotte Bobcats may draft at the #12 spot in this years draft.
Before we get started, I hope you don’t mind if I step off topic for just a moment to comment on the Clippers winning last night’s draft lottery. If there is a team in the league that deserves the #1 pick any less than them, then I’m not aware of it. They’ve been fixtures in the lottery just about every year since the Reagan administration yet they’ve done nothing to build their selves towards becoming anything close to a contender. They’ve been given high pick after high pick but they keep turning them into the Michael Olawakandi and Yaroslav Korolevs of the NBA. Following the lottery last night, Blake Griffin looked like he was going to become physically ill. He managed to say something about “making the best out of any situation”, but it was blatently obvious that playing for the Clippers was not his Plan A… B,C,D or E for that matter.
OK, I’m off of my soapbox. The Bobcats will be picking #12 in this years draft and our two biggest needs are a shooting guard who can backup (or potentially challenge) Raja Bell and a physical rebounder and defender.
Gerald Henderson potentially could fill the first of those needs
Looking at the videos, its obvious that he easily has NBA caliber athleticism and he can jump out of the gym. What isn’t shown is that he is an excellent defender at the college level, his shot on the other hand is just average. Last seaon he shot 33% from the three point line at the college level. That will need some work.
So, What are your thoughts on Gerald Henderson? Will he wind up being closer to Vince Carter or Shannon Brown?

If you think this cadre of baby-blue tarheels is going to draft a player from Duke, then you have bumped your head.
Gerald Henderson would fit the Bobcats perfectly, but it WILL NOT HAPPEN.
That last question is kinda funny. have you seen how shannon brown has played for the lakers? I dont know why we did not give that kid more of a chance.
Shannon is doing a decent job with the Lakers, but he’ll never be more than a backup at the NBA level. Remember before this season he was basically a street free agent without a gig.
Thats my main concern with Gerald Henderson, Is he just another supremely gifted “athlete” that doesn’t have the basketball skills to back up his athleticism?
i think that Gerald Henderson will be just like kobe he did not have a mid range game coming in to duke he has a excellent mid range game now and he can develop from 3 point range. In other words draft him do not make the same mistake the hornets made in trading kobe. this guy has potential to be a star one day start him give him a lot of minutes give the ball more & more down the stretch cause he WILL makes plays.
Nothing against Henderson, but he’ll never be like Kobe. Also, I know this isn’t really the point of this thread but the Hornets did not make a mistake in trading Kobe. He really didn’t want to play in Charlotte. If he did play in Charlotte he would have whined his way through his rookie contract then made the move to a bigger market the first chance he got. By trading him we got a serviceable center in Vlade Divac, who contributed to some of the best seasons the Hornets ever had.
Back to Henderson. I think he’s a decent pick for number 12 and he does fill a need, especially on defense. Raja learned to shoot in the NBA so we can’t count him out because of that.
We do not know that kobe is a hard worker and who knows maybe the hornets would have gotten to the champioship for all we know and i respect vlade he is a good player but not a kobe bryant
No question he will be a steal at 12 if we get him there
Gerald Henderson will fit perfectly in the bobcat system.
I have to agree with the first post…it will really surprise me if the Bob-Heels will bring on a Dukie, although I think Henderson has the potential to really bring something to the court. He has great athleticism and knows the game well.
