I can’t think about this anymore so here it goes:

I started by writing something really, really mean:

Kwame Brown, welcome.  No, you know what?  YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!  Go back to Georgia, throw some cake at somebody, do whatever it is you were doing!

We don’t need another reclamation project.  Don’t let MJ fool you, I speak for the greater good.

Then, I realized that was pretty mean and unnecessary.  The guy can’t help where he was drafted.  He can’t help that he was the first guy “hand picked” by The Greatest Player to play the game.  After all, it’s only the league veteran minimum.  $1,352,181, enjoy it Kwame, you may not see that kind of money ever again.

I laughed and scoffed at the Theo Ratliff trade, or whatever it was.  Larry, Michael and Rod seem to want bodies, even as I say “want” I feel like they would more take/accept than actively want players.  Sherron Collins, Dominic McGuire, Tyrus Thomas (re-signed), Shaun Livingston and now Kwame Brown coming in as free agents.  Erick Dampier, Matt Carroll, Eduordo Najera coming in via trade for Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca?  I’m so confused.

If it weren’t Kwame Brown and Michael Jordan, it wouldn’t be such a big deal.  I guess once Dampier gets released he’ll expect and get more than the league minimum.  So yeah, short on “bigs.”  Nazr Mohammed doesn’t do it for a lot of people.  He’s another year older, had a tough go with the back last year and he’s like 6’10″.  Don’t bring up Diop, please?

The history here is, kid was big, good…..for a high school player…..in Georgia…..in 1999-2000.  So Jordan took him first overall and he underperformed.  He didn’t make it into but 3/4 of the games that year, starting only 3.  He worked out his rookie deal in Washington, Jordan moved on.  A few years in LA, Memphis, Detroit and the kid’s without a job.  Jordan, whose first draft pick in his time with the Bobcats was Adam Morrison, 3rd overall and a flop, has continued to disappoint.  While he’s a marketing and corporate phenomenon, his eye for talent is less than 20/20.  DJ Augustin over Brook Lopez?  Stretching, reaching and giving away a first rounder for Alexis Ajinca?

I don’t get it.  Seems like a bit more trouble than it’s worth.  I asked CBA/Free Agent Guru Larry Coon:  Other than $1,352,181, opinion, how dumb is signing Kwame for the #Bobcats?  He corrected me:  ”He actually costs them a lot less than that.  League picks up a chunk of vet min salaries on 1-yr contracts. Cats pay just $854,389 of it. As for how smart/dumb it is,  …Kwame is a little…..fragile. I worry about him wilting again. Expectations in LA crushed him, for example. But in the right environment, other than bad hands, there’s no reason he can’t contribute. And if cats waive Damp, they need a big”

There you go, objective, reasonable reaction from the man with the FAQ’s.  I forget how horrible bad hands are on a big…”Felton to Okafor….Mek not ready for that one turnover for the Bobcats.”

Of course the team is looking to package Damp and somebody after that deadline, whenever that is, I’m sure Larry Coon has said but come on!  Seriously?  Who is coming here?  I’m getting depressed and have to go sit down, lay down, crawl under the house for a few days.  I’ll get back to you when I feel I understand Michael Jordan actually signing Kwame Brown, which may be never.  Send a search party.
