When this season started I professed to the world that I would not be another one of those guys that just harped on every little bad thing that the team did. As it turns out, it’s good that I held onto that idea as long as I did; there are just too many things. However, now that my optimism has turned into skepticism I find it hard not to complain about something.
Michael Jordan needs to fire Paul Silas.
Yes, you’ve heard me complain about the man before, but his abject refusal to even try to win a game has me shocked that he’s still got a job. I can’t stand that he’s having his son coach the team. It’s not his job. Paul needs to be doing whatever he can to lead the team to victory. That doesn’t include getting his son experience as a head coach.
This alone is enough for me to fire him if I ran the team. The fact that he didn’t even try to have the team do something when they were only down by five with 14 seconds left Wednesday night against the T-wolves was just absurd. At the least he should have had the guys foul Minnesota and make sure they earned the win.
I could care less that the man came out of retirement to coach the team or that he’s 68; no one made him take the job. Being tired is no excuse to do a shoddy job down the stretch. It’s no wonder that the team packs it in on occasion. I guess the players think it’s okay to pack it in since the head coach does.
What makes this more frustrating to me is that these guys can play well together. They have shown it at times. Take Wednesday’s game as an example. The Bobcats trailed by nine late in the first period, but went on a 20-9 late in the half to take a 47-45 lead. What makes that accomplishment even better is that Kevin Love was held scoreless during that run.
Silas has made it clear all season long that he doesn’t know what to do with the team. He’s actually flat-out stated it.
This is a perfect opportunity for Michael Jordan to show the fans that he is not going to be satisfied with a leader that barely shows up to do the job. As a sign of good faith and a desire to improve the team going forward Silas should be fired. People are taking about college teams being able to beat the Bobcats! How embarrassing!
Heck, Jordan should coach the last 15 or so games (however many are left). He certainly can’t do any worse than Silas not to mention it would be a heck of a draw to have the single greatest basketball player in history acting as the coach.

I don’t think dropping Paul Slias will make the team better. In fact given the severe lack of talent and experience, I think he has done a rather good job. He has gotten quality production from two guy who were parked at the end of the bench in their former teams in Byron Mullens and DJ White. It’s not Paul’s fault that his veterans have been completely useless. Once all the dead weight has been cut, look for the Ctas to improve.
The absence of talent on the team goes without saying. However, I don’t think Silas had anything to do with anyone playing well/better than they had previously. He played what he had and they did the rest. Silas has not done enough and has stated too many times publicly that he didn’t know what to do.

I think the Bobcats are trying to lay the groundwork towards making Stephen Silas the new Bobcats head coach at the end of the season. If that happens, I don’t expect to see much improvement in the on court performance.
I could not agree more with you Z-lo.
Hmmm this is a tough one to figure out. Coach that isn’t trying to win games and an owner who isn’t firing him for it. Gee, what could that mean?
C’mon guys the organization is obviously tanking. And its the right thing to do whether it seems like it or not. This team could easily win 15029 games if we tried. But what good does that do us? out of the playoffs and out of the lottery. Its what we’ve done since our inception and its about time we put a stop to it.
Paul Silas shouldn’t be fired, we should erect a statue out front of Time Warner Cable Arena. He is getting us on the right track even if it means sullying his own career. His son Stephen will take over for good soone enough, and its upward from there.
15,029 games?
Wait. What?
This article is absolutely positively spot on. This talk of the Bobats seriously lacking talent is BS. The team may not be as deep as other teams but there is enough talent to have between 15 and 17 wins at this point in the season.
Paul Silas obviously has been disinterested for much of the season. I can for sure say that our team is not a playoff team or even the best of the non playoff teams but to have seven wins at this stage is about much more than a lack of talent and inexperience.
How many times has our team been blown out? This last blowout to a Washington Wizards team who does not have many more wins than us says all I needs to know about the state of the team and how they see Paul Silas.
With that said I do not believe firing Paul Silas this close to the end of the season is the answer. Let Paul Silas have enough rope and he will hang himself. It will leave no doubt as to his place with the team. If he has a place at all.
