I think Jerry Maguire said it best in the pivotal scene at the end of the 1996 movie when he said:
“We live in a cynical world. A cynical world. And we work in a business of tough competitors. I love you. You… complete me. “
Unlike Dorothy, the Bobcats do not have us at hello anymore (nor do they complete me).
I get more and more of a feeling that if I am going to look for a silver lining with these guys I’m going to have to turn into a cynical little blogger that has to be sarcastic and poke fun at the team’s failures in order to find something I can claim is positive to write about.
Then the guys give us a game like they did Sunday night against the New Jersey Nets. Now I am fully aware that the Nets are not exactly challenging, but for the Bobcats to have been competitive, and actually lead—for a moment I thought they were really playing good basketball.
Of course that Deron Williams guy had to screw everything up with his franchise record 57 points (darn him). Then again, Deron Williams is an elite player and was on the court with a bunch of guys that are far from elite. He should have been able to do something like that.
On the bright side the guys actually scored over 100 points for the first time since January 14th when they put up 112 over Golden State in a rare win!
This team does have talent on it. Even though Williams ate D.J. Augustin and Kemba Walker’s lunch in the third the duo played pretty good otherwise. I can’t help but wonder if the outcome could have been a little different if Bismack Biyombo had played and blocked a few shots (like usual).
So for at least another week—and in spite of the 30-point loss the team suffered against the San Antonio Spurs—I find that there may be hope for these guys to squeeze out a win or two in the near future. It could very well come later this week when the Bobcats play host to the very same New Jersey Nets they almost beat Sunday (fat chance against Dwight Howard—I mean the Orlando Magic—or the Utah Jazz).
Join me as I raise my metaphorical beer in hopes that the guys will actually remember what it was like to come close to winning and like it enough to play just a little bit harder when the Nets come back to town Friday.

We all feel your pain. As Bobcats fans, it has been a tough season to say the least. This team simply doesn’t have enough talent to compete on a nightly basis in the NBA. The only sliver of hope for this season is that the core group has time to learn to play together and develop. This is especially important for the rookies and the hope is that these lessons will carry over into the following seasons as they learn how to win.
If Boris/Doris is truly on his way out then that’ll free up more time Brown and White.
